Rajkishan takes Young Cricketer of the Year Award

Allrounder Rajkishan Patel was today conferred with the 2nd Rameswar Sporting-Kanba Young Cricketer of the Year Award for his impressive performance during the season 2014-15. Jharsuguda lad Patel scored 225 runs, including one century and bagged 18 wickets in Cooch Behar Trophy. In Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he scalped 14 wickets.

Odisha Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda handed over the annual award, which carried a plaque and a cheque of Rs 10,000 in a function at a city hotel here. Former India Test opener Shiv Sundar Das, former Odisha Ranji team captain P Jayachandra, city Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, Bhubaneswar Athletic Association secretary S R Parija and Rameswar Sporting Club secretary Deepak Mangaraj were present in the function.

Senior Odisha pace bowler Basant Mohanty, state women team captain Madhusmita Behera and cricketer-turned-coach Subrat Behera were felicitated on the occasion. In the absence of Basant, who is now playing in the Buchi Babu Tournament at Chennia, his elder brother Jayant received a plaque on his behalf. Instituted in the year 2013, the Young Cricketer of Year Award was first conferred on allrounder Priyatosh Paramanik.
